The Pacific Energy Innovation Association (PEIA) is an independent, non-profit organization of energy professionals incorporated under the Societies Act of British Columbia.  Our mission is to initiate and support action for energy innovation, efficiency and sustainability.  PEIA offers objective, thought-provoking dialogue on energy supply, demand and the associated technologies and policies required by sustainable economies in the near- and long-term.

While its efforts are focused on British Columbia and Western Canada, PEIA seeks opportunities for collaboration with organizations in other jurisdictions to further mutual objectives. PEIA recognizes most issues and challenges are global, but solutions must be regional to meet local economic and environmental needs.

PEIA furthers its mission through two types of activities:

  • Events such as the Charting Our Energy Future series of major conferences and small, issue-specific “discussion workshops”; and

  • Projects to promote action by: defining and evaluating issues and options; formulating strategies and plans for action; communicating with stakeholders and decision makers about progress.

Activities have included:

  • Forum 2000 “Obstacles and Opportunities” Nov. 2000, Westin Bayshore, Vancouver;

  • Forum 2002 “Waste Not, Want Not” May 2002, Vancouver Trade & Exhibition Centre;

  • Workshop on Electricity Industry Reform May 2002, Sutton Place Hotel, Vancouver;

  • Forum 2004 "Addressing Climate Change - Issues and Solutions" May 2004, Hilton Vancouver Metrotown; and

  • Issue Breakfasts

Some 200 energy industry stakeholders, including exhibitors, attended Forum 2000 and Forum 2002.  Forum 2004 was organized as an invitation-only workshop, drawing on key stakeholders from the previous forums to develop recommendations for industry, government and educational institutions. The proceedings of Forum 2002 were provided to conference participants in summary form, and those of Forum 2000 on CD.  See our posted Synopsis (pdf) for Forum 2004.
